'While he was still talking to the multitudes,

It is amazing how the devil twists the Scriptures and forms whole new false doctrines out of them. The Catholic church promulgates the false doctrine that Mary, the mother of Jesus, remained a virgin all of her life and that because of this she is elevated to a position of being worshiped, with masses of people bowing down on their knees before statues of her.
This is a false doctrine and a "damnable heresy."

Jesus had at least four brothers mentioned in Scripture, and the Word of God also says he had sisters as well. In the passage above, we simply see in plain black and white text that the mother of Jesus, along with his brothers, came to where he was preaching, desiring to speak with him. If Jesus had brothers and sisters, obviously Mary was not a virgin. The miracle of the virgin birth was that Mary WAS a virgin when she conceived he who would become the Messiah, and remained a virgin UNTIL Jesus was born.
"Then Joseph being raised from sleep
did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him,
and took unto him his wife, and knew her not
UNTIL she had brought forth her firstborn son,
and he called his name Jesus."
Matthew 1:24-25
Let's look at two key words in this Scripture using Strong's concordance:
UNTIL: Strong's number G5088, a conjunction, preposition and adverb of continuance, of time and place.
FIRSTBORN: Strong's number G4416, the firstborn of man or beast
If he had been the only son, Scripture would have said "until she had brought forth her son." But the Scripture makes it clear, he was her FIRST son.
Scripturally, there is no reason Mary would have had to remain a virgin. The miracle of the virgin birth was just that, a virgin gave birth to the Messiah. The reason behind that is that it had to be clear that God himself was the true father of Jesus, the Son of God, in order for him to be able to redeem fallen man. But having fulfilled this prophecy, the deed was done. And when the "until" was over, Joseph then was free to "know" his wife. Had that not been the case, Mary would have been in sin, refusing her husband his marital rights.
Procreation is the purpose of marriage. Had God seen fit to keep Mary a virgin, there would have been no need for a marriage. Joseph could have then gone on to marry another woman of his choosing. But instead, he was told by God to take his WIFE and not to "know" her UNTIL the child was born. And after Jesus was born, being the firstborn, Mary and Joseph went on and had at least four more sons and several daughters as well.
WHY would Satan inspire the heresy of "the blessed Virgin Mary?" And of course it's obvious. In every religion Satan does all he can to divert worship away from his arch enemy, Jesus Christ. And he has greatly succeeded in raising Mary up to the status of one worshiped, with people bowing to statues of her. This is out-and-out idolatry.
"You shall NOT make for yourself a carved image,
any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
YOU SHALL NOT BOW DOWN to them nor serve them.
For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God..."
Exodus 20:4-5
The Catholic church has gone even further, proclaiming Mary the "Co-Redemptrix," meaning she is the Redeemer along with Christ, co-redeeming. This is heinous heresy, obliterating one of the most important Scriptures in all of God's Word, the fact that THERE IS ONLY ONE Redeemer, ONLY ONE mediator between us and the Father.
"For there is one God and ONE MEDIATOR
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus..."
1Timothy 2:5
Jesus said:

No one comes to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH ME.
